Fetal tissues and tumors that have separated from embryonic structures release the glycoprotein known as AFP. Some fetal deformities, such as neural tube defects, kidney anomalies, omphalocele, intrauterine mortality, and conditions that result in AFP values above the usual values for the corresponding age of the pregnancy, can be diagnosed by measuring AFP.
As a screening technique, AFP levels act as tumour markers and assists in the detection of liver cancer.

The close proximity of our laboratory to our clinic allows us to instantly analyze samples.

Missed appointments are NOT REFUNDABLE. Similarly, cancellations done within 24 hours of the appointment time are NOT REFUNDABLE.

Less than or equal to 5.0 ng/mL.
Accuracy and Precision:
The relative standard deviation from the target value is ≤ 15%. The within-assay CV is less than or equal to 15 %. The between-assay CV is ≤ 15%.

In range results:
The reference range for healthy nonpregnant females and males is less than 20 ng/mL.
Out-of-range results:
Any result greater than the reference range would be considered abnormal. Those with elevated levels of AFP may be at risk for small-cell lung type cancer. Elevated levels of may also indicate other cancers including Hodgkin’s disease, lymphoma, and kidney cancer.
