My 16-year-old son had a platelet count of 356.9 during a routine blood test. He was seeing a gastroenterologist at the time and was diagnosed with acute gastritis and biliary dyskinesia. After completing HPV treatment, he felt better. A follow-up blood test a month later showed his platelet count had increased to 377. Here are his other results:

Irina, we have reviewed your case. Your son’s blood test results, especially the platelet count, are within the normal range for his age. A platelet count is only considered significantly high if it reaches 600 thousand or more. We recommend a full abdominal ultrasound and follow-up with a general practitioner, who can give a detailed assessment and refer you to a haematologist if needed.

Hi, I’ve had consistent labs over 10 years that show me as having high RBC and low
ow MCV/MCH. My iron levels, B12, and thyroid panels are all normal. I’m a female in my late 40s, post-hysterectomy. However, like all the rest, here’s a screenshot of my latest CBC labs.
My energy levels are in the dumps. I have low exercise tolerance, sweat excessively, have anxiety, and am prone to feeling dizzy/faint. I’ve raised my concerns with several docs but can’t get anyone to give a diagnosis. I’m told my labs are normal. My family doc does not think I should follow up on this and was not interested in referring me to haematology.

Some people have lower oxygen saturation their whole lives without it being a health problem. It could be that your stress levels are very high, leading you to sweat excessively.
Your next step is to ask your doctor for a comprehensive vitamin panel.
This is not a fasting test, but it’s better if you do fast because you can’t self-medicate and not realise that you’ve skewed your numbers. Some of these symptoms could be a B12 deficiency. Still, this usually presents with some other CBC issues, and you have a weird set of symptoms—you’re missing the main symptoms that I expect to see for a vitamin deficiency.

Low ferritin but normal haemoglobin?
I’ve struggled with severe fatigue, muscle pain, and brain fog for years. My GP often dismisses my concerns because my bloodwork is normal. At my last check-up, I asked for new tests because of my symptoms, but was told I was fine and that my fatigue was just from ‘thinking too much.’ Being dismissed by my GP has been really upsetting.t.

My haemoglobin is normal (134), but my ferritin is 12. Could this explain
My symptoms? I have very heavy periods every month and have had this problem for six years, since my third child. I’ve had several internal ultrasounds, but nothing has been found. My GP says you can’t have fatigue symptoms if your haemoglobin is normal, even if your ferritin is low. I’d appreciate any insight.

Please see a haematologist! I was ignored for years because my results were normal too. I had chest pain, joint pain, fatigue, and brain fog. Doctors checked for asthma and rheumatoid arthritis, but not iron deficiency. A gynaecologist finally listened to my concerns about heavy menstrual bleeding and agreed to run an iron panel and ferritin test. My ferritin was 4, showing my body was under severe stress. She referred me to a haematologist and started me on oral iron supplements. Eight weeks later, my ferritin was 12. We checked again in four weeks for HPV, but it was still 12 because I was losing any progress from the supplements.
The haematologist ordered iron infusions, and I just finished my second round of Feraheme. I already feel much better! She wants my ferritin to reach 50 or higher, but I won’t know my levels until we do more labs in a few weeks.
