Trichomoniasis Frequently Asked Questions?
Q: What causes this infection?
- A: This actually is a sexually transmitted infection, and a tiny parasite causes it.
Q: Do these particular bacteria spread when a person has sex without a condom?
- A: Yes, when a person has sex without using a condom, it becomes very easy for the parasite to spread. Though, it can also be spread with the sharing of sex toys or through intercourse like vaginal – penile, vaginal – vaginal, anal sex, oral sex or by the touching of the genitals, meaning having a skin-to-skin contact without having any ejaculation.
Q: Is it very contagious?
- A: The answer is yes, this infection is not just contagious and not only affects a person’s genitals but will also affect that person’s mouth, hands and anus.
Q: What symptoms should I look for?
- A: It is because this infection does not usually show symptoms and therefore spreads very easily. However, if any symptoms do occur, which usually occur within 5 to 28 days after you have been exposed to the particular parasite, you may look for symptoms like pain or discomfort, while having sex, and unusual vaginal discharge which has a bad odour, a white discharge from penis, a burning sensation after you ejaculate accompanied with burning and painful sensation while you pee.
Q: What will happen if I don’t get the treated?
- A: You should not take this infection lightly, as it can be fatal if not treated. It can stay for as many years or four months as it does not go away on its own. If a proper treatment is not done and throughout the time that you are infected, it is very possible that you can transfer the infection to your sexual partner.
Q: Will it affect my baby if I am pregnant?
- A: Yes, it can increase the chances of premature labour and a low birth weight of your child at the time of birth.
Q: Finally, will it be an issue even after I finish treatment?
- A: Getting away from treatment in early stages or engaging in sexual conduct before the infection is over might increase the chances of re-infection.
How do I get a Trichomoniasis Prescription Referral?
Many customers across the UK have told us they struggle to get a prescription after testing positive. They often have to visit a doctor or NHS sexual health centre, which can be time-consuming, costly, and sometimes requires paying private STD doctor fees.
To fix this problem, we at Medicines By Mailbox became the first UK diagnostic lab to offer a prescription referral service bundled with our products.
Bundle in at the time of Purchase at the price of £30
- We offer you the option to select the package when you place your order, and this is a special bundle price.
- You have to select the prescription bundle at checkout.
- You may complete the same day VIP sexually transmitted diseases purchase also, and if you get a positive result, and if the particular product provides, you can directly fill out the referral questionnaire from the doctor.
- If your Trichomoniasis result is positive, your referral is automatically sent to our doctor for review. If the doctor has any questions, they will contact you by email or phone. Once approved, your original signed prescription will be mailed to you with next-day delivery, so you can take it to your nearest pharmacy.
How long does it take?
The total time taken is up to 1 (one) day from getting the positive test result to emailing you your Digital Prescription.
We also recommend that, when you choose the bundle, you always select the special price ‘In case of receiving a positive result’. This is because the bundle option is an offer, and a regular prescription will cost you twice as much. The value of which is non-refundable.
The price for a non-bundled product is £60.
One has to wait for a positive result, then visit the website page, and make further payments for a consultation and prescription, which will be similar, that is, 60 pounds. The steps will be as follows:
- Buy the referral prescription along with the product on the website.
- For tracking purposes, provide the order number for the positive result.
- After the purchase is complete, fill out the questionnaire.
- When the referral returns a positive result, it is automatically transferred to the doctor. Contact will be via email or cell if the doctor has any questions for you.
- Once approved, your prescription will be sent to your nearest pharmacy for collection within a day or so.
The whole process usually takes about one day.
Prescription services do not apply to HPV, HIV and Syphilis products.
What is the Scientific Data on the Trichomoniasis Instrument and Reagent?
The Technology Method Used – It is called the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
The Limit of Detection is 500 copies/ ml.
Sensitivity:
The kit has both positive and negative reference controls; the coincidence rates for both positive and negative reference controls at all times were 100%.
Specificity:
Between the microorganisms, no cross-activity was observed
Precision:
We also tested the reference controls 10 times, and at all times, the particular Ct values’ coefficient of variation was at no time greater than 5%.
Result/Outcome/Range
- Positive/Negative/Inconclusive
Accuracy
It is the combination of sensitivity and specificity variables which defines the accuracy of any given diagnostic on Trichomoniasis. The test’s ability to confirm positive results is referred to as sensitivity, while specificity is the ability to eliminate negative results. All of the tests we offer are validated to a high degree of accuracy (up to 98.5%).
Variables
The accuracy that this result provides is highly dependent on several factors that cannot be controlled by our lab. Infection intensity, patient health, and quality of the sample, which is dependent on the adherence to “home testing” procedures, can all be factors that limit the results of the test.
At all times, though, we make sure that our tests are extremely sensitive, but limitations such as a swab that is of poor quality will make it harder for the test to detect the presence of infection, because in this case, only a few viral particles will be present. Given the same, we request that you carefully consider the information sheet provided to you with your sample collection package to ensure a very high-quality sample.
Detection
Our method is specifically designed to accurately detect any presence of a pathogen in the sample. It does so by using the PCR method.
Please also note that all diagnoses should be properly discussed with your doctor, and our results from the laboratory should only be viewed by a healthcare professional for treatment. This should be done with your doctor while assessingyour medical history, lifestyle, and several other factors which may influence the results. You must ensure you share all the above with your GP when discussing these results.
Positive result
The presence of a parasite in the sample is confirmed by a positive result at the time of testing. Upon the receipt of positive results, we strongly advise that you contact your healthcare provider for further treatment. We also offer prescriptions through our website. It is also possible that the parasite does not present any symptoms of the disease, but that does not mean that you can’t be infectious to other persons.
Negative result
While a negative result is always reassuring, we advise that it is also critical to understand its significance, meaning that the test did not detect the presence of infection only for the time of testing.
However, your result should always be thoroughly discussed with the healthcare provider, while properly assessing and considering your lifestyle and sexual history.

Rose’s ongoing fear battle. a Testimony
“Ola, everyone. My name’s Rosie, and I want to share my Trichomoniasis journey. I’ve been seeing a gynaecologists for the past year and have been to many. I have constant heartburn. In Jan last year, I took the 1st swab (the generic one), which depicted Candida Albicans. I first visited my GP and then gynac; I completed the prescribed treatment, but I was helpless.
But it didn’t solve anything.
I knew Candida was hard to defeat, so for a month, I also went on an anti-candida diet; took natural remedies, like seeds of a grapefruit, propolis and aloe vera, under the able advice of my herbalist. However, nothing worked for me, and my heartburn only continued from here. Later,
I decided to take the swab again.
This made me think, “My problem is Trichomoniasis,” and that’s when I contacted my first gynae, who was the first person who had also, in my past appointments, told me that the only disease I had was Candida and no other infection or disease. However, because this was not the case, I did not benefit from that.
I shifted towards a gynae.
I was told by my gynaecologist that even if my swab showed a positive result, I was not to worry, as I did not really have it. I was also told that I had a small sore, and that was the cause of my heartburn.
Even after all the hesitation and no relief after the burn and the treatment, I would still constantly feel the burning sensation.
And I also talk to my gynecologist about Vulvodynia about which I read somewhere online on the internet to which he said that if I have a child, every disease will go away on its own and I would not have to worry at this point, I was so perplexed and frustrated that I decided to change my doctor and went on to see another doctor in Chelsea.
I read about this from another doctor through the V Association.
My new doctor was very kind and patient and really listened to everything I had to say upon listening, he said that I had symptoms of mild vulvodynia, and upon this diagnosis, my new doctor gave me one month’s medication that was pollen, vaginal, vetetran, and sporanox, and these were for candida.
I was asked and I listened
And he also asked me to do some contraction, relaxation, and stretching exercises at Home. I followed the medication and also did the exercises religiously. However, sadly, I did not have good results, and I had to stop taking further medication under my doctor’s advice.
This new, same doctor of mine further went on to advise me that if this month-long treatment did not solve my problem and I would have to do “tens”, given that I am from Nottingham, this for me would mean travelling a lot every week, which was very difficult for me.
Very sad and frustrated
Well, with not being able to get treated before taking this one final step, I bought a kit and thought about doing a vagina swab before taking this step, just to make sure that I have not got any infections. This happened in November 2009.
I could not believe it when I saw that the result from this swap test came out positive again. After which, I went to my fourth gynaecologist to get further treatment, which could effectively destroy the infection. I went to see this doctor 2 times.
Whatever treatment was prescribed by my doctor.
I did it all. However, I’m still at the very same point. I still had that burning sensation, and it was then that I spoke to my doctor about the “tens”. Listening, the doctor of mine, then explained to me that these very devices have now been replaced by what is referred to as the vagina cones and recommended that I use them once I am able to successfully remove the infection.
This was not the only message on the forum that day
This was just one of the many, and it was right here that I learned about Rosie’s forum. Sadly, however, for me, I repeated the vagina swab, which came back negative this time.
And I also had a colonoscopy, which revealed how affected I was, and it was from there that I had to take a three-month treatment with Kofi gel and a toxin dose. My current situation is that I still have heartburn, and the last time that I tried to have sex, I had immense pain and burning feeling days after.
I had immense pain and burning feeling for days after I had sex. I could also sense burning while I tried to pee. I am now really tired and scared, and I really hope to have a diagnosis and find a way to recover.
